Monticello, NY  --  For the first time in the 52-year history of Monticello Raceway 15 races are carded on a single afternoon race program. The barn-burning action will get underway on Wednesday, June 9   bolstered by seven divisions of the $188,000 NY Sire Stakes for sophomore trotting fillies. The fillies will strut their stuff in races 2,3,4,6,8,9 and 11.

The Mighty M contests are the first for the 3 year old trotting fillies on their road to their $200,000 NYSS Final at Yonkers Raceway later this fall.

“We had a surprising amount of entries, enough to fill seven divisions and Wednesday should be a great day for the harness racing purists,” noted Eric Warner the tracks Director of Racing. “Among the many entries we received included Nothing But Moni, the daughter of the great Moni Maker, and Southwind Samura, who has already won her only two starts at Vernon this year, the fastest in 1:54:4. But there are some other nice fillies in to go too, and we’ll have some of the top drivers here to sit behind them.”

Warner already eluded to Nothing But Moni who has but a pair of second place finishes to show for three starts this year. Owned by the Moni Maker Stable and trained by Frankie Antonacci the filly, whose sire is Credit Winner, will  have Howard Parker as her pilot when  she leaves from the seven-hole.

Southwind Samurai, a Conway Hall-Southwind Seasons filly with Pat Berry in the bike, will start outside of Nothing But Moni in post eight. She is undefeated in her two sophomore starts and already has amassed $123,700 while taking a record of 1:54:4 at Vernon Downs. Both fillies will lock horns in race number two.

Also of note is Impressive Kemp, a daughter Credit Winner and Emille Cas El, who has won two of three starts this season and bankrolled $77,947 while earning a 1:56:1 mark also at Vernon Downs. Mike Vanderkemp will be in the sulky when the Jean Edward Cloutier-owned filly starts from post six in race three.

And Spellbound Hanover’s daughter by Credit Winner, Sweespellosuccess, comes into the contest with a 2:00:4 triumph over Freehold Raceway’s double-oval on May 7 when she got the lions share of the $40,000 purse offered. Trond Smedshammer trains and will drive when Sweetspellosuccess leaves from post three in race eight. She’s the property of AM Viking Racing St; Ted Gerwertz, Robert Feldman and Rojan Stables.

And what would an NYSS event be without a good horse or two from the Ray Schnittker barn. Ray trains, and will handle the driving chores behind Munis Blue Chip one of the top freshman fillies last year and the  winner of the $200,000 NYSS Final at Vernon Downs last September 26. In three starts this season the daughter of Credit Winner and Hustle N Muscle comes into her race off a 1:57:1 score at Vernon Downs on May 31.Schnittker, Steve Arnold, Blue Chip Bloodstock and Jerry Silva are her proud owners.

Among  the top drivers who’ll be on hand for the afternoon action on Wednesday include Cat Manzi, Jeff Gregory, Stephane Bouchard, Pat Berry, John Stark, Jr. Mike Simons,   and Zeke Parker.

First post is at 12:50pm.
