Blacktuxwhitesocks Smashes Track Record at Buffalo

Hamburg, NY---It took thirteen years, but Lord Stormont’s 1:58.4 three-year-old trotting track record set in 1997, is no longer valid. That’s because last year’s two-year-old Sire Stakes champion Blacktuxwhitesocks was clocked in 1:58.1 for the Purple Haze Stables LLC., here at Buffalo Raceway Wednesday night (June 16).
“He felt great, and was well within himself”, said winning driver Jeff Gregory. “He (Blacktuxwhitesocks) did it all on his own”.
Leaving from post two in the field of seven, Blacktuxwhitesocks ($2.90) settled in third as eventual second place finisher Aruba Vacation (Fern Paquet, Jr.) hit the quarter in :29.3. Gregory swung his trotter to the outside and the duo hit the half with the lead in :59.2. From there on it was pedal to the metal and the Credit Winner offspring won by 1-1/2 lengths at the wire. 101-1 long shot Ultimate Athlete (John Stark, Jr.) came in third.
The $13,100 share of the winning purse put Blacktuxwhitesocks lifetime bankroll at $198,061.
Hometown boy Gregory also scored for the Purple Haze Stables when he steered Deliver Delovin ($11.60) to his second lifetime victory, and first in Sire Stakes in 2:00.4. “He broke when he saw the tractor gate down the backstretch,” laughed Gregory. “But luckily I got him back trotting and he finished strong.” Classical Winner (Marcus Johansson) finished second while favorite, Margarita Man (Ray Schnittker) came in third.
In the second division worth $26,700 Carnegie ($3.70) and reinsman Stephane Bouchard made it two Sire Stakes wins in a row for the Conway Hall colt, which is owned and trained by Kathleen LaMontagne. “We took the trotting hobbles off this year and he’s been perfect”, said Bouchard. “He took the Buffalo turns like a pro. He’s a really nice horse, with a big future”.
The most accomplished trotter in the Sire Stakes, Shaq Is Back ($3.10), with $304,510 lifetime earnings, did not disappoint as trainer-driver Ray Schnittker steered the Credit Winner offspring to his third win this year and eighth win lifetime in 2:01.3. “I got to the front pretty easy”, said Schnittker. “I gave him a breather to the half, and he was good from there”.
Reinsman Marcus Johansson scored with two Sire Stakes winners. Stimulus ($3.50) trained by Jimmy Takter, won for the fourth time this year in just six starts in a snappy 1:59.4, and Celebrity Bluechip ($2.90) won his first New York Sire Stakes race in 2:02 for trainer Staffan Lind.
Racing will resume on Friday June 18, with first post scheduled for 6:40 PM.
